The congress motto "Novel concepts for a lifetime challenge" points out that many disorders in the field of thrombosis and haemostasis affect patients throughout their whole life. Thus, basic science and patient care should involve both, an interdisciplinary approach at a patient's given age and a close collaboration of physicians and scientists specialised on different phases of the patient's life, such as neonatologists, paediatricians, general practitioners and geriatricians.
