This course provides an introduction into studying the genetic architecture of complex diseases and evaluates genomic research from a Public Health point of view. Students will follow pre- course online a guided teaching module familiarizing them with human molecular genetics. During the following course days, they will gain understanding of how the contribution of genetic variation to the development of age-related non-communicable diseases is assessed. They will also be acquainted with current applications of broader ‘omics approaches and their potential for personalized medicine. By the end of this course, students will be able to apply this understanding to evaluate qualitatively the benefits and limitations of complex disease biology in epidemiological research and for Public Health.

Eligibility:
Open to PhD students of SSPH+ public health program; other students and external participants are welcome to apply for limited spaces.
