This course addresses Migrants’ Health as well as Clinical and Laboratory Parasitology of different health categories. The course will present epidemiological and regulatory migration policies of the European and American system comparatively. The goal is to gain both knowledge and practical skills regarding the understanding and management of migrants’ health issues. A particular focus will be placed on laboratory diagnostic skills for the main parasitic diseases and how they adversely affect the health of migrants.
Educational Objectives
- Understand the major health issues of migrants, before, during and after the migration process, with a specific focus on the most vulnerable populations.
- Analyze problems and present solutions in terms of prevention, screening, diagnosis and surveillance of the main infectious diseases related to migration.
- Be aware of the importance of a multi and interdisciplinary approach in addressing migrants’ health problems.
- Discuss public health strategies globally to achieve a fair state of health with particular reference to tropical medicine.
- Apply decision making strategies applied to global health.
- Discuss the cost-effective features of parasitic infection screening and diagnosis strategies.
- Be able to use basic diagnostic techniques for the diagnosis of major parasitic diseases.
