The Diploma of Advanced Studies course “Health Care and Management: From Research to Implementation” at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH), associated institute of the University of Basel, introduces the skills and knowledge needed to work as a public health professional in resource-constrained settings.

With a focus on practical application and interactive training, the DAS “Healthcare and Management: From Research to Application” provides you with the core competencies for understanding and reacting to health challenges as well as the skills for working in global and interdisciplinary partnerships.

As a participant in our HCM course, you will benefit from engaging with experts from various fields and with a diverse student body to advance your position in the health sector.
The HCM course covers three main modules which can also be conducted as individual short courses:
Module A: Concepts and research methods: learning skills and research methods from social science, epidemiology and statistics
Module B: Health issues and responses: determinants of health, reproductive and child health, communicable and non-communicable diseases
Module C: Health systems, management and communication: health system management and transferrable skills needed in managerial positions
To achieve an optimal learning experience, the course employs a diverse spectrum of educational methods, such as individual and group work, lectures, seminars, tutorials and visits. The focus is on a lively exchange of experiences, ideas and mutual learning among participants and facilitators, alike. The course participants and teaching team reflect various disciplines, countries and experiences.
The course is open to participants from various backgrounds and countries. Participants are mostly trained health professionals (medical doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacists, etc.), though participants from other disciplines (business or social science, for example) also contribute to class diversity.
The course is accredited by the University of Basel as a Diploma of Advanced Studies, and within the European Network for Education in International Health (tropEd) as a core course for the Master of Advanced Studies in “International Health”.
