THE STUDENT BODY
This post-graduate course has so far enrolled 150 students across 35 countries worldwide, and representing more than 24 disciplines and professions. Our course has attracted physicians and healthcare professionals, including respiratory physicians, neurologists, psychiatrists, paediatricians, geriatricians, GPs, specialists who are focused on ‘behavioural sleep medicine’ (e.g. clinical psychologists, neuropsychologists), clinical neurophysiologists as well as applied sleep scientists, sleep technologists, and nurses. We have also enrolled students who are relatively early in their careers, recently graduating from undergraduate education.
Students interact with each other during the weekly online discussion groups, lead and moderated by core teaching staff. While the course is almost entirely online, our students build collegiate working relationships and networks, forging bonds that transcend global boundaries.
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
Sleep medicine is a rapidly growing specialty. This course will be of interest, therefore, to a wide range of physicians (e.g. respiratory physicians, neurologists, psychiatrists, paediatricians, geriatricians, GPs, specialists who are focused on ‘behavioural sleep medicine’ (e.g. clinical psychologists, neuropsychologists), clinical neurophysiologists, applied sleep scientists, sleep technologists, and nurses; as well as those who are relatively early in their careers recently graduating from undergraduate education.
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS WILL I RECEIVE?
The course offers two potential qualifications: Post-graduate Diploma (PgDip) and Masters (MSc). You can either enrol for a two-year PgDip or a two-year MSc. Students who complete the PgDip can apply to convert to the MSc after completion of a third year. Elements of the course may also be offered as CPD modules. MSc students are affiliated to Somerville College.
Before applying it is important to decide which route would work best for you.
As an Oxford graduate you will obtain a specialist credential to promote your development and practice. This course will also help you prepare for professional sleep society examinations. The programme however does not in itself confer a licence to practice. You would be expected to practise within your own professional codes and the boundaries of your professional certification.
