It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the XXIII European Stroke Conference in Nice, France for the second time since 2008. The ESC 2014 takes place at the newly refurbished Nice Acropolis Convention Center location in the heart of the city.
Thanks to the continuous support of more than 100 members active in the scientific and programme committees, we have prepared an exciting and outstanding programme for teaching courses, the nurses and AHP educational programme, many symposia- and joint society sessions as well as large numbers of original presentations after a rigorous peer review process of > 1500 abstracts of excellent quality submitted from
>60 countries all over the world including > 40 % from non-European countries.
For the first time we will have e-poster sessions only using 30 electronic terminals. This e-poster format has turned out to be very successful when it was first introduced in London last year: connected to an even bigger screen, all participants of the ESC will be able to interact with the the contributor´s poster during the poster sessions and will have free access to all posters individually selected on all e-terminals during the full meeting. Using the new iPad Air presenters will be able to include videos and use novel imaging technologies based on control functions. A new interactive e-book including all abstracts finally accepted with a fine choice of tables and figures will be available online during the conference and thereafter, also published with full reference in our corresponding impact-listed journal Cerebrovascular Diseases.
Apart from the highlights presented during the outstanding and best attended Large Clinical Trial sessions, for the first time we offer two Highlights sessions on thursday morning, which will extract „take home news“ from awarded excellence in different stroke research areas as selected from top rated abstracts submitted.
Find the complete programme as an E-Book here.

Nice
“When I realised I would see that light every morning, I could not believe my happiness, I decided never to leave Nice and remained here for almost my entire existence”. So wrote famous artist Henri Matisse.
Artists have always been fascinated by the city’s radiance, the beauty of its landscapes and its relaxed atmosphere; everything an artist needs. They often have decided to make their home here, making their contribution to the diversity of pictural art trends. That’s why Nice has so many wonderful museums, where you can discover a new kind of art.
With its unusual mix of real-city grit, old-world opulence, year-round sunshine and exceptional location, Nice’s appeal is universal. Everyone will love sitting at a cafe on cours Saleya in Vieux Nice or a bench on the legendary Promenade des Anglais for an epic sunset. Eating options are some of the best you’ll find in France. Especially the art scene is thriving. You could happily spend a week here and still be hungry for more.
